The control unit represents the “brain” of the vehicle and is responsible for the complete management of the electric powertrain, both in terms of drive mode and in terms of mode 3 (AC) and mode 4 (fast charge) recharging.
Sistematica S.p.A. it was involved in the development of functional safety aspects such as speed monitoring to detect wheel slip and the reaction strategy for engine torque control (STO: safety torque off) in the event of an accident. The functions performed were verified and fine-tuned through track tests.
The so-called Vehicle functions have been implemented, i.e. the management of all the electronic components of the vehicle not directly responsible for traction; which include both devices already present in the traditional model with heat engine, from which the eDucato is derived, and specific components of the electric version, such as, for example, the climate control system.
All the necessary functions aimed at vehicle diagnostics and maintenance have been integrated, including the generation of DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), used by OBD systems, the interface with the Fiat MOPAR connect application and the firmware update of the VCU itself and all on-board devices controlled by the VCU.
