Galileo is the European program for the construction of a satellite system for global navigation services
It is a constellation of 30 satellites (27 operational and three reserve), orbiting on 3 inclined planes on the equator at an altitude of 23,222 km (MEO, circular Medium Earth Orbit), which guarantee a position and a accurate timings.
The satellite navigation system, capable of providing a high-precision global positioning service, operates interoperably with other constellations such as the American GPS, the Chinese Beidou, the Japanese QZSS and the Russian Glonass.
Galileo makes it possible to obtain positioning and time information independently, allowing European countries not to completely depend on the outside for satellite navigation services, now fundamental in many sectors and strategic fields.
This system provides different services in constant evolution in order to guarantee an accurate position (High Accuracy Service, HAS), authenticated (Open Service Navigation Message Authentication) and also dedicated channels for institutional bodies with the Public Regulated Service (PRS).

Furthermore, more recently, Sistematica S.p.A. it is also active in the primary support for the engineering, implementation and commissioning of the Network Management system of the ground stations of the Galileo system.
